The alarm sounded I said a three-word sentence. One of which was an expletive and got out of bed. I had a long sleep and didn’t really need any more but still I was grumpy.

It was the beginning of a new week and held new promise and hope. But I didn’t see it like that when the alarm sounded.

I saw that of my friends Rob gave me a thumbs up for my post yesterday. I asked him why because it really wasn’t an impressive effort. He replied it was a supportive gesture and he could see I was struggling. It was greatly appreciated, putting me in a better mood than I would otherwise have been. Thanks Rob.

I made myself a bacon sandwich which was washed down with the ubiquitous cup of tea or so. The thing to do was make a plan for the week, something which was neither too ambitious nor too easy, but just right.

Looking back over the past couple of days they were the story of a yo-yo. Saturday, I pushed myself too hard and Sunday I was exhausted. One of my first new week resolutions is to scrap the idea of using a stopwatch to monitor my time wasting. I think ideas like that come to me after watching TV army training documentary. Television and the media can be a bad influence, as can books, family and friends.

Experts' experts choking smokers.
Don’t you think the jokers laugh at you.

(But surely, we all need new ideas and stimulations to grow and learn. Self-improvement is a noble objective, but self-acceptance is a must)

I am ‘work in progress’, as we all are. On my good days I learn something new and useful or unlearn something I no longer need. It’s a continuous process of growth and decay.

It was an interesting trail of thought but went on too long and I was late setting out for October Books. I took my sketchbook but didn’t use it.

After lunch, I bought a few ingredients for a couple of recipes I wanted to try in Portswood and came home, where I had a Zoom meeting with Richard.
