Ivor’s Daily Gallivant

Wednesday October 25, 2023

It was cold and damp when I woke up this morning. The rheumatism in my right knee and ankle ached. It had been cold the previous night and unable to sleep I’d found another blanket. Finally, after some deliberation I got up for a blood test in Blackfield.

I ran to save time and for exercise and arrived in good time. After my blood test I had breakfast at Wendy’s Café and caught the bus home. And ran from the bus stop to my bungalow.

I felt great after my run and thought about what to do with the rest of the day and the weekend. I could think of loads of things I should do that were interesting and important but nothing that I wanted to do. Before I knew it the morning had gently turned into afternoon, and I had nothing to show for the time which had passed. ‘Who says it’s so marvellous to spend your time productively?’ I wondered.

Clearly, I just wasn’t in the mood to goad myself into action. An entirely normal state of affairs. ‘What’s the point in keep on, keeping on?’ There was no one to nag me, whatever I did it was okay.

But I wanted to do something. (Well theoretically)

‘I shall seek out fun and adventure’. I decided but the question was how to go about it on a dull Wednesday afternoon with only myself for company. My solution was trying out a new recipe from the Veg World email which I receive, and it was delicious, simple and quick to make with low cost ingredients. It consisted of a tin of better beans, a tin of chopped tomatoes, onion, garlic, chilli flakes, a vegetable stock club, oregano, salt, pepper, a splash of lemon juice, and feta cheese. And was eaten with pasta.

Cooking and eating are one of my great joys in life, and after I’d eaten and the exercise of running to the shop for the ingredients. I felt amazing.
