Ivor’s Daily Gallivant

Tuesday October 10, 2023

Once again, I couldn’t sleep and so got up, got dressed and made a cup of tea. I was up for the rest of the night but the time to good use, by first writing a handwritten letter to my friend Richard whose doesn’t have a computer or use the phone.

Next, I joined a Facebook group called Southampton Heritage Photos, which provides a constant supply of information about Southampton’s past. And I accepted a friend request from Tracy a lady I see on the bus sometimes. I sent her a copy of yesterday’s Gallivant on messenger which she liked. (Perhaps I’ve got another reader!?)

At this rate before I know it my readership figures will soar into double digits!

Replacing the controller on my electric throw blanket is an ongoing problem- which I may have found an answer to. I googled ‘how to replace a controller for a throw blanket.’ Which led me to a promising site, that I sent an email to with a labelled photo of the connector of the controller, to illustrate wanted.

Hopefully it will soon be sorted out and for a lot less than the price of a new throw blanket.

I booked a blood test to check my blood sugar over the last three months for 19/10/2023, when the health centre opened.

And requested the Herald to print the letter I wrote to Julian Lewis about my glaucoma. That didn’t get through.

My plan for today was meet Andy for lunch at Be Be’s at 12.00. It was market day and Be Be’s was full of people. I got a coffee in Tilley’s the Baker and sat Facing Be Be’s and drank it while I waited.

Because of the situation in Be Be’s I suggested we get Fish and Chips at Philpots . There was a lady busker playing saxophone with a karaoke machine in the precinct, who we sat listening to as we ate. I was struck by how expensive my meal was, fish and chips with a can of Diet Coke set me back over £10.

Just before we arrived at my place, I realised I hadn’t picked up my printing which was why I went to Hythe today.

I was exhausted and asked Andy to leave after giving him a cup of tea as I didn’t want to risk having an epileptic fit and messing up all my plans for the rest of the week. (My exhibition launch night tomorrow, my Covid booster jab on Friday and my blood test on 19/10/2023)

Feeling weary my recent experiences seem to have been a question of suffering fools gladly and I’m not sure if I’m amongst them.
