Ivor’s Daily Gallivant

Woke up tired without any enthusiasm to get out of bed. Yesterday and Saturday were long days which had taken it out of me. My right knee ached, and I wasn’t very warm. I needed of a change of clothes and all my jeans were damp and, in the conservatory, drying.

I was down and ate a bowl of raisin and almond granola with an apple followed by some cheese, toast and hot pickle for lunch.

‘As I get older mornings like this and worse will happen more often’- I thought, dispondantly.

The whole bungalow was a shambles.

It was too late to go to Veg Out October Books. I sat around drinking tea but eventually pulled myself together and got my clothes dried in the laundrette. George the owner said fine weather is forecast for the rest of the week.

By 15.18 I’d had a shower, put on clean clothes and felt almost human. There was an email telling me, the posters advertising my sketch portraits had been printed, but it was too late to pick them up today.

Tomorrow I’m playing Scrabble with Andy and thought it would be nice to meet him for lunch in Be Be’s in Hythe, pick up my printing, and come back to play Scrabble. We went through some alternative plans, like buying a snack in Lidl, or me making us sandwiches. But eventually agreed it would be best to have lunch at Be Be’s and eat outside, to take advantage of the weather.

This evening meal was a little inventive (and very pleasant) baked beans mixed with frozen mixed vegetables and cider vinegar, a jacket potato and gammon steak.

I spent the evening making a Cumberland sausage casserole with a packet of Cumberland sausages, onion, garlic, baby sweet corn, boiled potatoes, half a tin of baked beans, half a tin of chopped tomatoes, frozen yellow peppers, frozen mixed vegetables, mixed with an oxo cube dissolved in boiled water, a drop of red wine vinegar, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, basil, paprika, salt and black pepper.

My mood had lifted from earlier in the day as the smell of my cooking spend through the house.
